Waiting For God, a play developed from the hugely popular 90’s sitcom starring Stephanie Cole and Graham Crowden. Initially written for the stage in 2017, the story is set in and around ‘Bayview’ retirement home. It contains all the favourite characters from the original series facing the challenges that come with growing old disgracefully and of course always getting one over the ‘Bayview’ manager Harvey Baines!
Directors programme notes from Kerry.
Wow, 3 years since we last graced this stage! After deciding to take on the role of director….. eek what play to choose!
Harping back to my youth, my love of good old British comedy, I found “Waiting for God”. A sitcom I laughed very loudly at as a teen.
Originally broadcast in the 90’s this BAFTA nominated sitcom, written by the actor Michael Aitkens, caught my eye. Michael wrote the stage play in 2017.
What I especially like about the script is how Michael has taken very emotive subjects, that we all can relate to, and although touching at times, has bought humour to these moments.
So welcome one and all to my directional debut for Mortimer Dramatic Society. We’ve had lots of fun along the way with a fab team. I’m truly humbled by those that took on this challenge with me and I thank them very much.
